As the saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

Well, if that’s true then I’ve made a lot of lemonade over the past couple of months. But rather than dwell on those “lemons”, I’d like to be even more cliché and reflect on the things I am thankful for as November draws to a close. I’ll admit my first reaction was not to be thankful for any of the occurrences, but in reflecting on what has happened over the past month I find that I have a lot to be grateful for.

First is the incredible community of supportive people I have met since moving here to Detroit. It’s easy to feel lost and lonely when transitioning to a new city, especially when life seems to keep throwing you curveballs, but the experiences of the past month have shown me that I’m definitely not alone. So, in no particular order, shout-outs are due to:

  • Andrea, for chauffeuring me around for two weeks and generally being a rock star
  • Laura, for giving me an escape for the weekend
  • Gabby, for that pick-me-up lunch even if I wasn’t great company
  • Mikayla, for last-minute packing help
  • Cassi and Miranda, for last-minute moving help
  • Erin, for loving this quirky house as much as I do and becoming my roomie
  • Dave, for getting me mobile again

Second is that Mosher Dolan is a great place to work. I have worked for other companies in the past where I didn’t feel valued or appreciated, but that it definitely not the case here. The partners have gone above and beyond to help me out with a personal issue, unrelated to my work, which I truly appreciate. But beyond that, they place a lot of interest in the Challenge Detroit program and helping to develop our skills throughout the year. I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the year unfolds.

And last (at least for this post) I appreciate that my family has got my back. Even if it meant helping me move for the third time in less than a year!
