It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 months since beginning my journey with Challenge Detroit, and that we have only a little less than a month until we complete our final projects. But more on that next month, this time around I wanted to share a little bit about what I do the other four days of the work week at my host company, Mosher Dolan.

Mosher Dolan is a high-end residential construction firm located in Royal Oak. But there’s more to the company than just the residential side. They are also construction advisors for the Goldfish Swim School franchise, which offer lessons to teach kids how to swim. And the Goldfish world is where I spend most of my time as a project manager. The franchise was started here in Birmingham, but is quickly expanding all over the United States. I’m currently managing projects near Boston, Denver and Milwaukee, just to name a few.

What does my day typically look like? Well, although there is no typical day, I’m often involved in reviewing plans for specific locations, reviewing and approving submittals, participating in weekly progress calls, facilitating product orders with manufacturers, and the list goes on. While there is a lot of overlap in the specifications for each location, there are also all the minute details that make each location unique. And that’s why each day looks a little bit different than the last.

One great thing about each project is seeing everything come together at the end. In fact, I was recently in Winter Park, FL for a site visit prior to the location opening. We visit each location for a final punch list (making sure products are installed as specified and that things are in working order).

So there you have it, a little bit about what I do as a Fellow at Mosher Dolan.
