I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a Metro Detroiter, or a result of my dad being a mechanical engineer, or if it’s just because I develop deep affinities toward inanimate objects, but I’ve always made sure that my car was an extension of my identity.

It’s crazy to think that 7 months ago that extension of me was the blue ’95 Oldsmobile. A car that has seen more emotions from me than most people. After quite the series of unfortunate events, I lost her, due to a classic, but petty crime that happens often in Detroit – theft. It’s real, it’s true, it happens. I’ve never felt threatened for my safety, more so a shock way of confusion and surprise. I’m not angry, more saddened, that a staple of me disappeared, and all the mix tapes inside. But at the end of it all, I can honestly say I am so grateful for the people, support, and options that were available to me without a car.

Now I have this ’99 Grand Am on loan, that people think define me. It’s most certainly become a part of my days here in Detroit, but I’m excited for the next car that’ll define my time in the Motor City.

As a tribute to the old gal stolen just about 7 months ago now, I wrote a poem. Or more just reflections on each part of her. See it below:
