To some Christmas is about celebrating Jesus, spending time with family, receiving gifts, and eating tons of delicious food. Can’t say that I don’t agree, but we often forget about the importance and the gift of giving. This holiday season I had the opportunity to adopt a family from Mariners Inn, with the help of my team at General Motors. We were assigned a grandmother and her grandson that she has guardianship over. Our task was to identify the needs and wants on the Christmas list and make sure that we purchased at least one item for each family member. My team and I ultimately purchased everything on the list plus some extra items that we thought they both would enjoy. These items included pots and pans, other kitchen necessities, bed sets, clothes, and a plethora of toys for the grandson. Seeing the two light up as we filled the table with a bunch of wrapped presents was nothing short of amazing. I cant even describe the look on the face of the grandson when he opened his, limited edition yellow, Chevrolet Corvette. I believe at that moment nothing else mattered and I understood the importance of lending a hand to a person who is going through a rough situation.

Giving back and being a helping hand is very important. This allowed us to not only put a smile on a families face but it gave satisfaction knowing that we were able to do something for someone else. I believe that the biggest takeaway from this experience was the fact that we all need help sometimes in different ways. It also showed the importance of lending a hand if you have the means to do so. This by far was my greatest holiday experience and I will definitely be adopting a family again next.
